Two new distinctions honouring engagement in bat conservation has been established. The Golden Horseshoe Bat commemorates individual persons, and the Quality Sign Land of the Horseshoe Bat is for the institutions involved deeply in helping bats.
The first announcement of the laureates will take place in Mogilno, near Nowy Sącz, during the three day event Crown of Pogórza. In the Pogórza region it is easier to meet a horseshoe bat than in most other parts of Poland. The event will provide several opportunities for “meeting” the horseshoe bat. The awards will be handed over 2 April, in the Mogilno Culture Centre, along with some interesting presentations about the region. Participants will hear about local discoveries and places of interest, learn whether the bats accepted renovations of their roosts, which often are listed as cultural heritage of high rank.
