Results of the October competition
The question in the October competition concerned bat guano. How to tell the bat droppings from those of small rodents. Why did we ask such a question?
First, guano may be the only trace of bat presence in some place. Second, it is very useful as a fertilizer, dissolved or spread in small quantities over the garden or into the flower pot.
The correct answer for our question is bat guano turns into dust when spread, while that of the rodents is more solid
Some of the answers indicated some other differences, such as shape of the droppings, resemblance of the granulated tea, specific smell, accumulation of piles, and presence of the chitin. All of these answers where also correct, and those who gave them, indicated crumbling as well. The friability of bat droppings is the most obvious feature, that even those inexperienced in field biology can check easily.
We selected randomly two participants among those who gave correct answer: Jędrzej Mikołajczyk and Renata Gogola.
Congratulations!
The winners receive project T-shirts.
All are welcome to participate in the monthly competitions. The November issue is on its way.
