October competition
Soon, bats will leave their Summer colonies, and head towards their temporary and Winter quarters.
On the attics, there remains guano, containing the undigested wing covers, legs, and other remnants of the bat's prey. Analysis of these rests under the binocular helps to determine what have the bats eaten during Summer. The attics are inhabited not only by bats, and people often do not know whose droppings they see on the floor.
The question for this month is: how to tell the bat droppings from that of rodents?
We wait for the answers until end of October, and the winners, randomly selected among the correct answers, will receive a T-shirt promoting the LIFE Podkowiec+ project.
By the way: bat guano may be used as a good fertiliser, which must be diluted before use. It should be collected in late Autumn, to not to disturb our flying tenants. In the LIFE Podkowiec+ project special platforms were installed ubder colonies, to protect construction of the building and ease up collection of guano.
