When bats are busy eating the mosquitoes around their Summer roosts, it’s the best time to work in their Winter quarters.
In LIFE PODKOWIEC+ project, three caves, important bat hibernacula, will be closed to prevent human penetration. Installation of appropriate grills, not causing substantial change of the cave microclimate nor disturbing the flight conditions, makes possible closing of the object for Winter season, when bats need quiet for their hibernation. In Summer, when the grills are opened, the cavers may visit the undergrounds not causing any harm to bats. This approach increases the bat survival rates and improves human safety as well.
Two of the caves, where the work already started, are located in the Ojców National Park.
