First Lesser horseshoe and Greater mouse-eared bats come back to the renovated buildings. Refurbished roofs, platforms preventing damage to the constructions by guano, different microhabitat improvements, assure at least several dozen year perspective for the thriving of bats.

May is the beginning of detailed field control season, when the effects of the works will be finally proved by the bats.  Initial check shown that early comer bats appeared into all controlled roosts. They are not very active yet, waiting in torpor for better weather and appearance of insects. These are the first “scouts”, most of the bats should return to the Summer roosts throughout May, and give birth to their young at the turn of June. It is a very critical period, as a scared female may leave the colony even for few days which would jeopardize the lives of their offspring. The bats should not be disturbed, at best the attics sheltering bats should not be visited by people until October ends. That’s why the roof and loft renovations implemented in LIFE PODKOWIEC+ project had to be done in the Fall and Winter seasons.
