In the St Niclaus The Bishop church in Wleń, the tin roof replacement with historic slate cover has been successfully completed lately.

Specially for bats, so they feel familiar in their roost, old planks soaked with bat smell, were placed over the new wood.

The work was examined by the official team, comprising Parish rev. Krzysztof Madej, Contractor Mr Roman Rolka, Curia of Legnica – rev. Stanisław Szupieńko, Regional Historic Monument Conservation in Wrocław, chapter in Jelenia Góra – Mr Zbigniew Kudyba, The Lwówek County governor Mr Marcin Fluder, pro Natura – coordinator of the Podkowiec+ project – Rafał Szkudlarek and construction supervisor Mr Tadeusz Świderski.

There was also a group of bats participating in the joint acceptance of the works. Their presence confirmed the validity of the work. They “signed” their acceptance with their droppings on the special platforms, installed in earlier projects, and cleaned last winter. During the season, the local Greater mouse-eared bat colony can produce as much as 500 litres of guano, a perfect fertiliser for the garden or flower pots.
