It is the time of winter monitoring of the bats. As last year we check known places where those mammals hibernate. Bats are quite strongly attached to their winter hiding places, that’s why it’s easier to asses condition of the population in the winter.
At the same time we control if the place is safe and eliminate endangerment if necessary. During the winter season bats need to stay in calm hibernation, the energy they’ve collected must hold out until spring. Winter is a difficult time for lesser horseshoe bats, they have to survive almost 6 months in winter hiding places. They are able to do it as long as they sleep calmly and nothing disturbs them nor wakes them up.
