And finally autumn has come – the season of intense work in protection of summer locations. While the bats fly to take their sleep in the caves, at their absence, we start the repairing works.

For October-warm-up just a ‘trifle’ – exchange of whole roof in St. Maria’s Church in Nowosielce (near Zarszyn, podkarpackie province). In the summer attic of this church is inhabited by about 400 females of greater mouse-eared bat, and in breeding season there is also offspring. The location this valuable was a base for creating there the Natura 2000 area “Church in Nowosielce” PLH180035. The construction of the roof was old and badly built so it needed quick intervention, because it’s conditions threatened people’s life and the existence of bats colony. After the renovation greater mouse-eared bats will return to the brand new attic, but we are going to attach boards from old roof permeated with familiar smell of bats, for them to feel cozy and comfortable. The borads will be placed near the entrance holes which will be located in same places as before the renovation. Greater mouse-eared bat is one of the biggest bats in Poland, it weights up to 40 grams and it can migrate even hundreds of kilometers from summer shelters to wintering places.
