In the Summer season, the horseshoe bats spend their time raising young. The males, however do not take part in family life, and have a lot of free time. The mascot horseshoe bat must be a male (its name, Kazik, is 100% masculine), as its main occupation during that time is participation in the events, travelling and promoting the horseshoe bats.

Sunday, 26th June Kazik participated in the sport event “Mt Brzanka Run”, where the LIFE Podkowiec+ project stand welcomed the runners and spectators.

Next Sunday, 3th of July, he worked on the stand during the Bee-keeper Feast in Stróże.

10th of July was also Sunday, and the bat accompanied 50 visitors to the Skamieniałe Miasto (Petrified City) reserve, taking part in the event organised to promote the project. Many people visited also the project stand, including Bartłomiej Maziarz reporter of Radio Kraków and Andrzej Łabno, chairman of the Tarnów Regional Branch of the Polish Tourism Association (PTTK). The Horseshoe Ambassadors helped to run the event, telling stories and guiding through the games at the stand.

The Night Honey-harvest took place by the Bee-keeper in Stróże 14th July. The participants took also part in the night visit to the Petrified City where they were guided by the tourist guide and the mascot bat, but managed even to spot some real horseshoe bats hunting between the rocks.

To read about these, and many other actions, Polish speaking persons may visit the Kraina Podkowca FB fan page. There are more news, comments to find and place, and one can learn how to become a Horseshoe Bat Ambassador.
