Lately, we focused on a disused old lime kiln “Wapiennik” in Stara Morawa. In addition to beautiful weather and landscape, the owners received us very well. Our day ended with tea and cake (nicknamed “guano-cake”) in a Japanese-style garden. In a friendly atmosphere we had the opportunity to discuss the planned roof overhaul in “Wapiennik”. We made first measurements and counted bats in the roost. Eventually, we were all set to count the bats as they emerge from the building, but the witty animals left the roost using some other openings, not known to the observers. There is no doubt, however, that a large colony of mouse-eared bats inhabits the building – one can not only smell it clearly (the species has a characteristic, strong odour) but also see the droppings right on the stairs. The “guano-cake” may soon become the favourite of baked goods on the owners’ hospitable table.
